Awaiting Your Return From Shore | Classed as a world heritage treasure by UNESCO, Dubrovnik is a place of
ancient streets lined with stone palaces, Venetian-style buildings, and bell
towers. The city is enclosed by stone walls up to 81 feet high and over 1
1/2 miles long. The highlight of any visit is a leisurely walk atop these
massive walls for a great view of the city and the sea. Entering Dubrovnik, you are greeted by an impressive pedestrian
promenade, the Placa, which extends before you all the way to the clock
tower at the other end of town.  The whole, perfectly preserved old
town is unique for its marble-paved squares, cobbled streets, tall houses,
churches, palaces, fountains and museums, all cut from the same
    light-colored stone.
For a fantastic panorama of the city, take a cable car ride to the summit
    of the 1,340-foot Mount Srdj.

 Shopping
Best buys are traditional handicraft products such as fine lace from the
Dalmatian Islands, handmade embroidery, woodcarvings, woolen and leather
items, carpets, filigree jewelry, ceramics, and tapestries.

CuisineSeafood is excellent, including scampi, a variety of fresh fish and
brodet (mixed fish stewed with rice), all cooked in olive oil and served
        with vegetables or tartufe (mushrooms).

Other SightsIf not on tour, head for the Old Town and explore along the Placa and in
the side streets. The entrance is from the Pile Gate, and once inside
the city walls the Old Town has to be explored on foot. One of the
highlights includes a walk atop the city walls, offering great views
over the rooftops, hidden courtyards, and gardens.
